Unlike my wife and partner of 30-years whose specialty has always been real estate appraisal and sales, in 1986, after UCLA and Guild School of Law, I embarked on a 30-year career in Real Estate, Land Use and Governmental Affairs law representing the interests of more than 1500 clients. From individual home owners and smaller, independent developers to larger real estate development and hospitality corporations including Kaufman and Broad and both Hilton and Hyatt corporations, we represented more than 1500 clients during my tenure, including the Catholic Church in 1991 winning a $1.2M ($893,000 final) setttlement against the City of Los Angeles and their Airport Commission. Further, for Hilton and Hyatt corporations, my expertise was called upon to assist in the acquisition of three Mexican Riviera properties so my experience in real estate truly is international. After retiring from practice in 2016, I semi-retired in 2020 to join my wife in the sales and purchase aspect of real estate creating The AmesGroup where we provide our clients with a combined 78-years of experience; a resumé unequalled in the industry today.

Joyce Mahoney-Ames
As a proud graduate of Santa Monica College with a degree in Real Estate, I began my now 40-year real estate career in 1978 as a Level-1 appraiser. In that capacity, I worked long hours learning the ropes so to speak in both residential and commercial appraisal. As I rose through the ranks and gained experience, I earned the respect of my superiors in the field and rose through levels 2, 3 and finally 4, the highest, national certification available in the field. Eventually, I was recruited by one of the largest banks in the country at that time, American Savings where I was appointed Chief Appraiser responsible for the financial institution’s entire appraisal staff.
Looking to retire from the typical 14/16-hour-a day work schedule, I moved to a less-frenetic position in real estate sales, first with resort developer R-MAC Properties where I earned Salesperson of the Month and Year more that 17-times in 2-years and then to my future husband’s company, BIACO International as director of their real estate sales and acquisition department where I remained until his retirement in 2016. Today, he and I have once again partnered to form our own company, The AmesGroup where we currently represent clients looking at first-time or move-up homes and at vacation homes or investment portfolio acquisitions both here and in Baja.
